LITTLE GREEN TOMATO

There was this day in spring, our three year old came trotting up all proud because she had picked a green cherry tomato. When I said it was way too green and probably wouldn’t ripen now, she looked disheartened. So we planted it in one of her flower pots to make her feel better. We then forgot about it. Summer came and now summer is coming to a close. A few weeks ago, we saw tiny leaves emerging. Thinking it was another flower seed sprouting, and having forgotten about that green tomato, we watered it waiting for a bloom. But as it’s gotten bigger and shown off it’s leaves, we recognized them, and remembered that little green tomato from all those months ago, and grinned ear to ear at the making of something new from what didn’t seem like it was even going to be.
